Ready, Set, GO! And we run as fast as we can to reach the end line, the final point and to be the first one to do it. If you are not first no matter how fast you ran, it is all pointless to the pessimists and a learning experience for the optimists. I won’t put myself in either of the categories. You know why? Because I never took part in that race!
An individual goes to school, then further studies, then does a job, changes his/her job, gets married, learns to adjust, has kids, plans a life for the child, gets a dog, trains the dog, plans family vacations, makes a couple of investments, makes a retirement plan and does everything in his/her power to achieve or accomplish the above set tasks and goals. Often when you get something you also give up something. It is a golden rule of life we must not forget.
So what is it that we give up! Often we put on horse blinds and just run towards one goal after another. Like everything in life is a task that needs to be accomplished. Like we are running out of time and have to complete everything in the list before our time is up. And in this race against time we forget to be in the moment and just breathe in the present. We forget to enjoy those little moments, acknowledge those little things, appreciate those little gestures. Why are all these little? Because we give the regular tasks so much importance that we overlook the value of these precious things, people and our surroundings in the present and do not realize, they may not be there tomorrow and maybe, there may not be, a tomorrow. And we overlook it to an extent that the occasions and accomplishment of an important goal just seem like completion of a task rather than a reason to celebrate.
Of course it is important to focus on our development and be successful in life. But what is the point in being successful if you can’t share the fruits of your success with anyone? What is the point of working and earning if you and the ones who matter are always busy? What is the point if there is no one to raise a toast with? Can you live with that?! My guess, NO!! We always need those special people around us who make our life worthwhile, to celebrate with, to laugh together, to take a walk down the memory lane, to be there in times of need for each other and sometimes just someone to be there, so we can be too.
So let’s breathe now, feel the present, do what you love, feel happy about all of it and relax. Let’s slow down a little, take smaller steps, spend more time living in the present, and just BE. And don’t worry what the world would say, because once the storm has passed, once you are at peace with yourself, once you have the much needed clarity in your head you will look around and smile to yourself wondering why is everyone in a rush…
What’s all the fuss about!
