CAN YOU STICK AROUND FOR A WHILE?

It’s alright. It will pass. I am sure you can handle it. Give it time. Here’s a meme, this will cheer you up. Come on, don’t let this pull you down.

Often, by the time you hear these words, you have already been pulled down. You know that feeling where you feel like a vaccum cleaner is on somewhere and it’s trying to suck you inside along with all the dust? At first you think it’ll only be your thoughts, but then before you know it you begin to lose control of your motor sense(s) and then you just lie still, staring at the ceiling, or at a star lit sky if you’re lucky, or at the roaring waves if you are luckier.

So now you are sitting there on the couch, and with absolutely no physical strength manage to pick up your phone and try to reach for help, only to be pushed further down. Remember that meme where there is a guy drowning, there is a thought cloud over him saying men’s mental health, and someone walks by giving him a hi-5 instead of pulling him out? More often than not that’s exactly what happens. Sometimes it feels there is a reason you’re mentally ill. I mean there has got to be some malfunctioning in your head to make you reach out to such people every single time isn’t it?

The thing about mental health is it’s pretty much like life. There’s a saying that goes – Life is what happens while you are busy making plans. Well, mental health is what happens when you think you have healed. All it takes is one trigger to send you down that spiral. It has almost become routine though now.

While we all have different ways to look after ourselves and our bouts, it’s very very important to also look at who is willing to sit with you through it. The situation isn’t a judge of their character, nope. It is for you to know who is willing to stick with you in your lowest lows. Who is willing to hear you out, extend a shoulder to cry on, embrace you in your moment of vulnerability and walk beside you holding you up as you take baby steps out of the spiral.

There will be many in this world who can make you laugh, but few who are by you as you weep uncontrollably, who hold your hand when you cannot quite figure what’s going on with you, who help you sail through the storm that your mind brings down on you time and again, the storm that you cannot quite make sense of. There won’t be many such people you can have as your support system, you’l know when you find them, they are the ones who you wouldn’t mind asking…

Can you stick around for a while?
