IT’S A BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY

Temporary. Phase. Moment. Money. Feelings. People. You know what’s common among all these? You may have guessed it right. They all come and go. An addition to the above list and quite an important one is LIFE. Just like the other things, a life is given birth and it eventually is taken away by death. This life is broken down into fragments or pieces. Past, present and future or let’s say memories, engagements and hope.

We are given a balanced life, balance between good and bad, happy and sad, winning and losing. And we very selectively focus our energy on activities that either enrich our lives and make us feel fantastic or we focus on activities and instances that drain out all the enthusiasm and leave us dry with patches of despair and loneliness. What makes us choose a particular path is what I am trying to find out. I am not sure if there is a definite and clear answer though!

Memories. They surface over our thoughts time and again, always suggesting something, sometimes the good old times and sometimes act as warning signs. Engagements. They are the experiences that we engage ourselves in right now, teaching us something every single moment. Hope. Hope for something we don’t know anything about, not just yet and still cling ourselves to it. Although, we could do it differently. Learn from our past, cling to the present and try to be careful in the future. We can plan all we want. Choose a path and follow it (or at least try to). Life will happen the way it was supposed to happen, not how we plan it or want it.You’l fall when you thought you’d get through and you’l get saved just when you gave up.

Our life is full of surprises if we are open to it and full of let downs if you choose to see it that way. So the saying hope for the best and prepare for the worst does make sense afterall. It’s true if there wasn’t sadness we wouldn’t know how precious happiness is, if we didn’t lose people we wouldn’t have realized that life is temporary and we have to make the most of it while we still have it.

Getting what we want and losing what we want is a recurring process in life. We know it, accept it and continue to challenge life on a daily basis. We gamble what we have for what we want knowing that there are variable factors influencing the outcome too, factors beyond our control, factors that remain unknown. The fun lies in the unknown, in the mystery of it all and no matter how high the stakes are, we enjoy the ride because that’s what life is all about…
